Castletown Golf Club

Former captain Chris Kelly (19) definitely had his eye in at Castletown Golf Club on Saturday. Winning the first round of the winter league with 42 points Kelly birdied both the 3rd, which is the  second longest hole, and the 13th which is the shortest. With 21 points on both halves Kelly completed the course in 13 over with two pars on each side.

There was a two way tie for second place on 41 points. In the card countback second spot was awarded to Anthony O’Mahony (9) who birdied two of the par fives and was just two over on both halves. At six over par Terrance Cassidy (13) had been in the lead right up to the final hole, but a double bogey there held him back.

Newly installed club President Sam Skelton (5) earned his second birdie on the 12th bringing him back to level par. A bogey on the 15th led to him finishing with 20 points on each half for fourth place.

Richard Corke (5) and Mark Reynolds (13) both stepped in with 39 points for fifth and sixth place respectively. The lowest round of the day was posted by Richard’s brother, scratch golfer Jon Corke, who was three under until the final hole which snatched back two shots.

No doubt Corky will be rueing the fact that the competition was not an eclectic. The first round of that event takes place this coming Saturday.
