BOYD & BRADLEY TEAR IT UP!!

CASTLETOWN GOLF CLUB REPORT 21st SEPTEMBER 2019

Once again windy conditions returned to Castletown Golf Links for The Alan Christian Cup, a former Golf Union Trophy, an Open Competition with Lady and Men entitled to enter, kindly sponsored by Island Aggregates Limited. Forty Seven pairs took part with those playing later in the day having the less windy conditions although other than the wind it was a pleasant day to play golf.

The winners with 46 points were Steven Boyd (3) and Gez Bradley (1), they had almost even halves with 24 points out and 22 on the inward nine. Both players scored gross birdies on the 5th giving them four points on the hole. Boyd who recorded his score on every hole had a 66 gross, an impressive round.

Second with a score of 44 points was Daryl Callister (-1) and Tom Doyle (4) a Mount Murray player. Doyle had a gross birdie on the 7th which helped them return 23 points out with 21 back.

Taking third place were the partnership of William Laughlin (13) and Robert Quine (18) with 43 points winning on the back six from fourth with three other pairs also on the same points.

There were longest drives on 5th and 12th holes. Taking the honours on 5th was Steven Hawley (12) from Douglas Club and on 12th Andrew Challenor playing off scratch. When I went past both holes the longest drives were well within the 150 yards maker to the green so very impressive drives and worthy of the prize.

Nearest the pin on 16th went to one of the overall winners, Gez Bradley (1) but I noted he did not convert for a two but playing into the wind by midday no one had got on the green.

Midweek there was a Men’s Medal with 17 entrants, winner on nett 69 Alex Holt (18), second Martin Derbyshire (17) with nett 70 and third Juan Costain (5) with nett 71.

On the same day the Ladies held the Leighton Cup, stableford competition with 13 entrants, winner with 38 points winning on back nine, Dawn Sissions (39), second with 38 points Jackie Fisher (27) and third Bronwen Raatgerer (29) with 37 points.

This Saturday we have the Standard Bank Individual Stableford.
