CORKE BROTHERS & MURRAY CELEBRATE IN THE FINAL ROUND OF SMP MONTHLY MEDAL

CASTLETOWN GOLF CLUB REPORT 7TH SEPTEMBER 2019

Compared to last week the weather was benign for the final round of the SMP Partners sponsored monthly medal with 87 players taking to the course although only 46 completed the round. Standard Scratch for the white tees was 73 but only six twos were recorded.

Two players tied on 65 nett, after white tee adjustment of two shots, on the count back Richard Corke (5) winning having had 37 out and 35 back, gross 72 which included birdies on 4th, 6th 14th and 18th. Second was Wayne Egerton (21), gross 88 with a birdie on the 1st hole, a good start to the round.

In third place was Lewis Howland (5) with a gross 74, nett 67 having had birdies on the 2nd, 3rd and 12th. Close behind in 4th was our president Peter Robertson (14) with gross 84, nett 68 with a birdie on 13th. Fifth spot went to Steven Boyd (3) with gross 75, nett 69 with birdies on 1st and 10th holes. To be in the nett prizes this week it seems it was essential to have at least one birdie on your card.

In any medal there has to be recognition of the best gross and that honour went to Daryl Callister (+1) a former island champion with gross 70 and as with all the other winners he had his share of birdies on 1st, 4th and 10th.

There was no yellow tee prize this week.

As this was the final round of the season for this competition the overall winners of gross and nett prizes have been calculated.

During the week Andi Howland our Administrator had advised after five rounds, best four to count, the Gross leader was Jon Corke on 290 with Dave Quayle leading the nett on 276. Now the final round has been taken into consideration the overall gross series Champion is Jon Corke still on 290, having has rounds of 76, 72, 68 and 74 with the nett series Champion Simon Murray with total of 272 with rounds of 65 ,68, 66 and 73. Congratulations to both players for their steady play.

The members would like to thank SMP Partners for their continued support of this monthly competition throughout the season which is much appreciated

Next week there is a Club Stableford competition and on 21st September an Open Competition for the Alan Christian Cup, Four Ball Better Ball sponsored by Island Aggregates Limited for which entries are already open.
