Forsaking the fescue but making hay whilst the sun shone, Ash Sansbury won the Club sponsored Stableford on Saturday with nothing worse than a bogey. There may have been ten of them but, with (15) plus two white tee strokes to play with, it led to an unbeatable 82, nett 65.
Early starter Sam Skelton (5) scored the same as Sansbury and secured second spot after scrutiny. His lovely level par round included three birdies, two of which were 2’s for a double dollop from the two’s pot.
There was also a tie for third place. Both Jeff Magee (16) and Steve Keegan (9) nabbed nett 66’s. Magee started birdie, bogey, birdie, but made a muck-up of the 4th recording an ugly eight. He redeemed this with a fine four over par back nine to purloin the podium place. Keegan bagged back-to-back birdies for a one over par front nine, but finished at five over with a string of bogeys.
Last week’s winner Robert Braide (3) continued the pay back for his lessons with club pro Charlie Simpson by shooting another luscious level par round. He claimed the best gross prize and fifth place on nett 67 after the white tee’s adjustment.
Tom Collister (13) dropped just five shots after eleven holes but double bogeys on the 12th and 18th led to a 82, nett 67, for sixth spot on countback against Braide.
Andy Saunders (14) won the Flowerpower sponsored midweek Stableford with 36 points, two ahead of David Allan (11) with Guy Pickard (5) a further point behind in third. Maryann Dunn (22) was the first lady home with 31 points.
This coming Saturday sees the club sponsor a Stableford and with the warm weather set to continue it should be a corker. On Sunday 8 September Cowley Groves is sponsoring The Battle of the Generations. This open ten hole 14:00 shotgun start competition is aimed at teams of two players, one being under 18. Handicaps are not necessary as they can be allocated on ability. Our new Bay Green Restaurant will be providing dinner at 17:00 and non-players are welcome to join in as long as they have booked.
