Castletown Golf Club

Despite Manannan’s Cloak causing congestion and cancellations Kevin Madin (25) got off to a superb start on both halves to win the SMP Partners sponsored monthly medal with a nifty nett 63 at Castletown Golf Club on Saturday. Level par after the first three and dropping just one shot over holes 10 , 11 and 12 Madin could afford his triple bogey, double bogey finish and still triumph by two clear shots.

The 2008 Island champion Jon Corke (1) must have thought he was in for more than having the best gross score with his fantastic four under par 68. With five birdies the only hole not halved or humbled was the 14th which he bogeyed. Corke came second on nett 65 after the white tee’s two shots handicap adjustment.

With two birdies on each half Mark Teare (5) finished third on countback with 74, nett 67 after adjustment. Teare went off track on the Road Hole for a disappointing double bogey but only sustained four other bogeys.

Late starter David Price (6) enjoyed some of the better weather and was only one over after 14 holes. Unfortunately, two late bogeys left him in fourth spot with 75, nett 67.

Three over after three holes Simon Murray (5) managed the remainder in luscious level par and that enabled him to filch fifth place on 75, nett 68, ahead of four other competitors on the same score.

Michael Charmer collects the ‘next’ best gross prize with a superb 71.

Wet weather put paid to the mid-week mixed open competition but there should be plenty of players out this Wednesday honing their skills ahead of the first round of the club championships at the weekend. Once again The International Stock Exchange (TISE) is sponsoring our 36 holes two rounds, blue tees flagship competition.

A separate senior’s 36 holes championship will be played off the yellow tees and the ladies club championships, also sponsored by TISE, are scheduled for Wednesday 26th June with the second round on the following Sunday.
