CASTLETOWN TURNED INTO A PAR THREE COURSE

With an eagle on the 3rd and 13 pars the winning team in the Texas Scramble at Castletown Golf Club on Saturday ended up just 0.6 short of completing the course in level 3’s.

Off ten percent of their combined handicap Ben Akrigg, Stephen Berry, Tom Blythe and Jon Corke deducted 2.4 and so their 15 under par gross 57 turned into an ultra low nett 54.6. Corke’s compulsory quota of tee shots was completed by the 12th, Berry’s by the 15th, Blythe’s on the next and Akrigg waited patiently until the 17th.

Finishing 1.6 behind on nett 56.2 Gary Ashe, Brian Bodell, Lee Coxon and Peter Easthope started with an eagle from Ashe’s fire power but Bodell bossed the tee with six shots selected in all. They all carded four drives by the 16th and ended with eleven birdies in their 13 under par round.

Low handicapper Robert Braide led the team finishing third with 56.4. He eagled the 1st but the accuracy award went to Phil Games with birdies bagged on two of the par threes. Their playing partners, Terence Cassidy and Chris Dunn didn’t disappoint delivering three of the team’s nine birdies.

Next Saturday’s Paddy’s Day (Take Two) already has 150 competitors lined up. With 15 tee times still available for this mixed open AM-AM their is plenty of room for visitors to sign up. At £20 entry fee it is an ideal opportunity to play Castletown and to support our captain’s charity, Autism Initiatives.
