Sublime weather brought a generous entry to the Manx Cancer Help stableford competition this week. 25 players battled it out with several new members performing well.
Well done to Dave Evans who dished up a nearest the pin treat on the 13th hole. Dave's fine shot wasn't challenged all day long.
The main competition was won by Dave Matthews who battered the opposition with a very creditable 27 points for 12 holes. The Peel fryer chipped his way to success with some miraculous up and downs around the course. Fear not, fellow members, the 27 handicapper is now a feature on the handicap secretary's radar screen.
In the same fourball, single figure player, Mark Handley scored well. The fellow frying companion of the winner and main man from the Terrace Chippy, played some 'codlike' irons during an almost flawless round. I'm told that a shabby putting display on 12 kept Mark out of the prizes.
Securing second place for the day was Andy McGee. The steely Yorkshireman who looks like he's been partial to a visit to Harry Ramsden's over the years, landed a net Albatross on the final hole, nudging out Mark Handley and Maryann Dunn.
The leading golfer from the Dunn household scored 26 points with a rather eclectic round of high and low tariff scoring. It won't be too long before Maryann is in the prizes again.
Thank you to all our members for supporting the competition. The same format is planned for next Wednesday.
