FRANCIS THODAY SHOOTS A NETT 61 AND YET STILL LOSES HIS 4BBB

After a midweek trouncing Francis Thoday (15) bounced back and joined those pilloried players who score 47 points. Thoday chipped and putted with aplomb and triumphed by winning the club Stableford on Saturday by four clear points after two birdies, ten pars and six bogeys. Remarkably, even with a nett 61, Thoday still ended up on the losing 4BBB team and consequently had to buy the coffee.

Keith Bernard (18) needed a countback to claim second place. His tidy eleven over par score included a lucrative two on the 13th which helped him complete the back nine in just three over for 24 of his 43 points.

The Capital International Castletown Cup holder Robert Braide (3) shot six birdies in a fantastic four under gross par round for his 43 points. Unfortunately, two late bogeys cost him on countback.

The recipient of the free coffee mentioned above was Stuart Brawn (20) who finished fourth with 42 points. His 4BBB playing partner had to walk in after seven holes making Brawn’s achievement even more amazing.

Mark Reynolds (14) went off roading at the 5th so scored his 40 points on 17 holes for fifth place. In sixth on 39 points Richard Dunn (6) was three over at the turn and ended that way after a lovely level par second leg.

In the mixed midweek nine holes Stableford Jill Fleming (54) made it back-to-back wins by scoring 24 points having posted 22 last time out. In a four way tie Steph Gregg (25) took second by finishing with two nett eagles for eight of her 21 points. Kevin Amphlett (13) eagled the 1st and ended at four over par for third place. The unlucky countback casualties were Nick Duncan (25) and our lady captain Julie Amphlett (22).

In an endeavour to create a bit of variety for our Wednesday competition offering we will be running a series of mixed midweek Greensomes where both players drive and, after selecting one, alternate shots are then taken. Any combination of pairing will be allowed so choose your partner wisely and try to keep the same partner throughout the four events - 6th February, 27th Feb, 20th March & 10th April.

This Saturday the third and final round of the winter reverse Greensomes takes place. Finally, with Paddy’s Day falling on a Sunday this year our captain, Geoff Sugden, is hoping to arrange a charity fund raising event so please pencil 17th March in your golfing diary.
