Castletown Golf Links
Due to expected poor weather the Tower Insurance sponsored turkey shoot 4BBB scheduled for Saturday at Castletown Golf Club was postponed and converted to a 15 holes individual stableford. Even that proactive action failed to convince the majority of members to turn up and take part which was a shame as, although it was windy, the conditions were much better than anticipated.
Early starter John Byrne (11) had a stellar start parring the first five holes and had a similar par procession after a bogey and double bogey on the 6th and 7th respectively. Even with an N/R on the short 16th Byrne finished six points ahead of the field with a splendid 34 points.
Three time island champion Adrian Copley (10) motored round with eight pars, three nett pars and a couple of single pointers for 28 points and second place. A double bogey on the 9th and the mysterious disappearance of his Callaway on the 16th caused Copley almost as much bemusement as not being invited to play through when appropriate earlier in the round.
Ross Byrne (11) - no relation to John - had three nett biirdies but finished third on 27 points having N/R’d both the 5th and 7th.
The smooth swinging Alan Rowe (5) and golfer of the year Will Halsall (10) shared the spoils taking the two’s pot with their elegant efforts on the 16th.
Bad weather put paid to the nine holes ‘midweeker’ but there is nearly a full start sheet for this coming Saturday’s Greenkeeper’s Benefit which is a Tower Insurance sponsored turkey shoot Texas Scramble. Our members will no doubt dig deep to show their appreciation for the sterling efforts of Andy McIntee and his hard working colleagues who are currently expertly re-profiling the bunkers.
Members are also reminded that they can save five percent on their annual green fees if these are paid before the year end. With new member recruitment incentives of up to £120 being available, and annual full membership ranging from £300 to £696 for age groups between 17 and 34, we are all being encouraged to find new members.
