Castletown Golf Links
King William's College opened in the Isle of Man on 1st August 1833 and provides excellent teaching and friendly boarding, in a beautiful and safe environment. From the youngest pupils at The Buchan School, which was founded in 1875 by the generosity of Laura, Lady Buchan, to the most senior at College, all our students develop a love of learning, fulfil their academic potential and become confident, articulate and responsible young people who will serve with creativity, insight and tolerance in the international communities in which they find themselves as adults. When our pupils leave with their International Baccalaureate Diploma they are well balanced young men and women ready to join universities all over the world.
The Golf Academy offers pupils an exceptional opportunity to develop their sporting talent in tandem with a first-class education.
Located next to and working in partnership with Castletown Golf Links, KWC golfers have the unique ability to play on an 18 hole championship golf course situated on the Langness Peninsula in the Isle of Man, surrounded by the sea on all three sides.
The Golf Academy offers exceptional practice facilities and programmes for both beginners and advanced golfers, ensuring it is at the forefront of schools’ golf.
Why Golf? It provides students a brilliant opportunity to get active and outside in the fresh air whilst developing their balance and coordination physically, and helping to nurture their character as sportsmanship is absolutely at the core of the game. At Castletown students will only have to travel a couple of hundred meters from the school to get out enjoying a course that is rated amongst the best in the British Isles.
Golf Awards are available to pupils joining the College in either the Lower Fourth or Lower Sixth and are awarded at the same time as the Academic Scholarships. The Awards are up to the value of 20% of the tuition fee and those holding a Golf Award will join the Elite Golf Programme at Castletown Golf Links.
Candidates for a Golf Award will be invited to a practical assessment. They will be expected to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in golf and they will take part in a number of practical tests. Candidates will also attend an interview. Each award is held from 1st September of the year of entry until the pupil leaves the College, provided that the pupil continues to maintain their commitment at a very high level to golf. If a candidate applies for more than one Scholarship or Award the maximum reduction offered will not exceed 20% of the tuition fee.
Parents of King William’s College pupils, who are members of Castletown Golf Links, will be able to benefit from a 10% discount on their annual membership subscriptions, whilst their child remains a member of the College and the Golf Links.
