We'd like to update you on a very exciting development for the Links - the build of four new bunkers with stunning revetted faces in association with Ecobunker, the brainchild of Mr. Richard Allen. The first bunker has now been completed by our green keeping team on the 18th fairway. The process has allowed us to re-define the bunker shape - moulding it into the fairway, there is new drainage and a base lining that will be entirely rabbit proof and will also stop any stones being dug up to the surface from below (to be added shortly). In addition to removing the issues of stones in bunkers, the base lining will act to allow the depth of sand and consistency of playing surface to be maintained more easily. The bunker face construction consists of up to 60 layers of recycled astro turf. The beauty of the structure is that revetted faces are of course classic links style whilst being massively more resilient than traditional methods using natural turf. Next time you're at the Links please take an opportunity to view it for yourself and feel free to pass your feedback on to Dave or Will or indeed the greenkeepers themselves. The finished playing level will be approximately 5 inches higher than at present. Here's how they did it...

The Island Champion Jon Corke took an early lead in The International Stock Exchange (TISE) sponsored club championship played off the black tees. Finishing with a double bogey Corke slipped back to level par 72 which was still good enough to top the leaderboard after round one. Former Castletown Cup winner Robert Braide set a superb new white tees course record score of 69 to lead the senior championships.

The winning team, from Rowany GC, were led by island squad player Mark Sutton, Rushen United footballers Dan Hattersley and Aaron Hawley and their former team-mate Josh Kelly. They proved to have the prefect blend for a Texas Scramble. 13 birdies and 5 pars led to an incredible gross 59 which reduced to 56.1 after application of ten percent of their handicaps.
