Amphlett Speeds to Victory

Incredibly testing conditions at the Links on Wednesday demanded some clever shot making and wind play from all who took part.

The 40mph gusts put many regulars off and those who ventured onto the peninsula, endured a tough lesson in hurricane management.

It was a pleasure to welcome Reg Archer and Brian Squires to the competition this week. More solid scoring from the boys will see them feature in the prizes soon.

The top spots featured two of our more sedate members in the club. Appearing yet again was the man(go) of the moment, Mike Horsthuis in second place. Playing off 9 handicap and begging for a further reduction, the man who is all about fruit and nuts tooled himself up with a retro set of irons and performed well with 22pts.

A big 'Hurrah' for our winner Kevin Amphlett with an utterly exquisite score of 24 points. The card included 'blobs' on the 5th and 12th holes and his fragile 14 handicap is looking more precarious than ever. The Fiat car enthusiast has improved his golfing prowess recently by playing with some of our most talented club golfers. He's also been out a couple of times with Richard Dunn.

Mr and Mrs Amphlett have kindly underwritten the Manx Cancer Help Golf series in 2016 and the Wednesday comp format is proving to be a big hit with the members. If you are looking to get fixed up for a game, please contact Ged at the Pro Shop.

Our leading lady was Heather Skinner who enjoyed a delightful round. One of our most elegant players, sweet swinging Heather defied the elements again and posted another admirable score.
